Meet our Tuumsters! Get to know more about the amazing people working at Tuum.

Can you tell us briefly about your role at Tuum?

I am a product owner in the field of payments. The objective of the Product Owner is to have a vision of where Tuum is heading in that field, what would be the strategic path towards that vision, and what are the short-term tactical steps towards achieving these goals.

What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work at Tuum?

From the moment I saw the job advertisement for Tuum, last summer. I share the vision of the Tuum founders about the service we are developing and immediately have ideas on how I can contribute to it. The past five months I have been with Tuum have only reinforced my belief that this decision has been the right one.

What inspires you?

That there are still so many things in the world that can be made much, much better and there are so many people around who sincerely want to do that. An endless creative vibe, producing limitless sources of inspiration.

How do you see your future at Tuum?

I see myself providing ongoing support for Tuum as they continue to develop. Over the past 30 years, I have been employed in various fields, worked with different people and different organizations, and experienced a couple of burn-outs, personal highs, and lows. I think it is sort of a unique set of experiences that I can use to help others navigate through the challenges they might face.

What advice would you give to our new employees/hires?

As a person and as a professional we grow by taking on challenges. Trying to solve all of them alone would set a limit to one’s development. Take the challenges and don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice if you feel you need it.

If you could give one piece of advice to Tuum, what would it be?

To maintain balanced growth. In both this year and next, we will be in a phase where companies often find some essential components are missing. It is best not to try and tackle all of these issues at once. We are best served by choosing wisely what we do now, what next, and what further into the future. We are still a young organization with an emerging identity; overly rapid growth can hamper this process which is both painful and unstable.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

It seems to me we are inching closer towards an innovation that will lead us into a big unknown realm. It is the junction at which quantum computing and massive research in the field of AI will meet. We as human beings will face many ethical questions about how to manage the things we have created, or whether they are manageable at all anymore.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I like to dream — just doing nothing and dreaming.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?

I think I am a very Nordic person and therefore I would like to go somewhere in the north like northern Finland, Norway, Ireland, Canada. Wild forests and old mountains are places I would like to visit.

Favorite Food/Meal?

I like the so-called fusion kitchen, where inspiration is taken from different cultures and something new and surprising has been created. I also like when the food is made with living fire, which creates a timeless flavor.

Who did you want to become when you were little?

When I was little I wanted to become a border guard. I had a sort of romantic imagination about that profession, where you can walk with the dog and a rifle gun.

Who do you look up to?

I have been inspired by David Kelley and Tim Brown, the two leaders of the IDEO company. It is insightful how they have applied customer experience to the center of all of their developments. It is one thing to design a physical product, but it is a totally different story once you begin to design services in the public domain like healthcare or education.
