Software Engineer - I’m a software craftsman working in the core-baking team. I’m responsible for developing different types of features and fixing any client’s issues in the core product.

Tell us a bit about your background and how you got to where you are today?

I’m originally from Bangladesh. I spent my childhood in several places in my country as my mother worked for an NGO, which meant we needed to travel around a lot. My childhood was really great, as I met lots of friends from different places. After finishing school, I was successfully admitted to one of the best engineering universities in Bangladesh and completed my bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering. Upon receiving my bachelor’s degree, I joined a company as a software engineer. It was during this time I learned of the Tallinn University of Technology, thanks to a friend of one of my colleagues. As I’m always enthusiastic about new knowledge and experiences, I decided to apply and ended up completing my master’s degree in Cybersecurity at the Tallinn University of Technology. I am happy to say I have called Tallinn ‘home’ ever since, and have been fortunate to continue my career in the field of software development.

Can you tell us how you came to join Modularbank? How has your experience been?

As I was actively looking for opportunities after coming to Estonia, I had multiple offers in my pipeline. Modularbank stood out to me most due to the exciting product and supportive working environment. After joining, I was really amazed looking at the code and the product, which is really intriguing and highly organised. I am fortunate to work with a team of highly skilled and qualified individuals; if I face any issue, I can always find the support I need to resolve the issue. Additionally, I find myself frequently helping others. I feel trusted to take ownership and work on my own initiative, something which is very important to me. When I reflect on the environment at Modularbank, I feel justified in my decision to join the company.

Moving from Bangladesh to Tallinn must have been a big change. What attracted you to Estonia?

Two years into my career, I was eager for some variation and decided to pursue my master’s degree in the MSc in Cybersecurity at the Tallinn University and Technology. Estonia stood out to me due to its reputation as the IT hub of Europe. So, here I am in Estonia; I have finished my master’s studies and also accepted the opportunity from Modularbank. The past two years of my life were really amazing. I have made a lot of new friends, and have learned so many new things.

How do you see yourself progressing at Modularbank in the coming years?

Every day I’m evolving and learning lots of things from all the people around me. I hope to continue this, to become more knowledgeable as a software developer, and also contribute my best to the growth of Modularbank. I feel fortunate to contribute to some of the really great features of our product, which I'm really proud of.

Can you talk about some of the advice you often share with your fellow Modularbank developers?

Software development is not rocket science, you just need to be patient and enthusiastic. Don’t feel lost, as there are lots of things to learn. Take some guidance and learn from the available resources. I’m a really introverted and shy person, but when it comes to seeking new information, I always ask questions to whoever might be the suitable person to ask. I suggest to all the new employees that they ask as many questions as they can whenever they feel stuck. Most importantly, practice makes a (wo)man perfect, so practice as much as you can. Happy coding!

Enjoying Estonia’s nature

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I love to spend time with my friends and family, particularly around some good food. My favourite meal is Biryani, but I also have a bit of a sweet tooth (Rasgulla). I also like to travel; my dream vacation would be to go back and visit the mountains of Bangladesh, which I find stunning.
